As a member of Torbay Mencap we will ask for personal information to identify you and to contact you.

We will use your contact details to send emails or letters to send you information related to Torbay Mencap, its activities and related topics and invitations to events we are hosting.


We will not share, sell or give any of your data to anyone else without your consent other than to The Royal Mencap Society for statistical purposes.  If your data were required for any other purpose we would first seek your permission.

We ensure any data will be kept safe and protected to the highest possible standard of security in line with the requirements of Data Protection Act 2018.

Any special category data that we hold will be only used as outlined in section 3 and we will do our best to protect such data from any potential risk.

Personal information will be held for no longer than necessary.

Financial information may be held longer to comply with Financial law


  1. Subject Access Requests (SAR)


This is your right of to request a copy of any ‘personal data’ we hold for you.

You have the right to be told if your data is transferred internationally, who the recipients are, and what the adequacy mechanisms are for those transfers.


Torbay Mencap will respond to an SAR request within a month


We will always check the identify of anyone making an SAR request.

The right to be informed – Any processing of personal data will be lawful, fair, and transparent.

How your information is collected, used and to what extent it is used will be clear.


The right of access – Members have right to request a copy of the information we hold about them (see section 6)


The right to correct information – If incorrect or incomplete, we will update with the updated data as soon as it is received.


The right to erasure – Members can request for their data to be removed (apart from that we are required by law to keep)


The right to restrict the use of data– You can block or limit data use


The right to data portability – You may request your data to be moved copied or transferred.


The right to object – You may object to the use of data even if it is for a legitimate reason.
